How Therapy Works
Your relationship with your therapist sets the foundation for everything that happens in therapy. I create a safe and nurturing environment that allows you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without being judged.
I work with what is happening in the room. What are you feeling right now? The past is an important aspect of the person you have become. You bring your past with you into every moment, either consciously or unconsciously. By remaining curious and open to the possibility of what is happening in this moment, we can expand your awareness of the obstacles that protect you from feeling satisfied with the life you are wanting.
Therapy can be difficult work. Although you might wish for something to change in your life, you can simultaneously resist it because the unknown can be scary and sometimes what we know is easier to accept than what we don't. In our work I will encourage you to look at aspects of yourself or issues from your past or present that are stirring up uncomfortable feelings. I will challenge you to try out new perspectives and support you in facilitating change when needed.
I believe you want to reach your greatest potential. Your mind and body are constantly moving towards optimal states of health, and even your suffering is meant to help you heal. The challenge is that in order to grow and learn you sometimes must face what troubles you most. Psychotherapy helps you come in contact with the parts of your life that are uncomfortable and to work through the changes you would like to make in supportive and nurturing environment.
